3 minutes read

With an ever improving and committed R&D team, Microsoft has launched Microsoft Copilot, your new AI assistant that helps boost productivity in everything you do. Want to know more? Lets jump in.

What is Microsoft Copilot?

Microsoft Copilot system is an AI system based on OpenAI’s ChatGPT embedded into Microsoft 365. It combines the power of Large Language Models (LLMs), including GPT-4, with the Microsoft 365 apps and your business data in the Microsoft Graph making them accessible to everyone through natural language.

What makes Microsoft Copilot unique and valuable is that it connects the Large Language Models (LLMs) to your business data in a secure, compliant, privacy-preserving way through Microsoft Graph. This means that it generates answers based on your business documents, emails, calendar, chats, meetings, contacts and other business data, and combines them with your working context like the meeting you’re attending, the email exchanges you’ve had on a certain topic and the chat conversations you have had. This results in delivery of accurate, relevant, contextual responses.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is integrated in productivity apps that include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Microsoft Teams. This results in a great increase in productivity, accuracy, and use of insights hidden deep inside your data.

Microsoft Copilot Uses

Here are some of the uses of Microsoft Copilot:

1. Writing Code

Microsoft Copilot assists developers in writing code by providing contextual suggestions and completing code snippets. It assists developers in debugging code and following development best practices. When developers use Copilot, it analyzes the code they have written so far and generates suggestions for the next lines of code. These suggestions can range from completing a line or a function to providing whole code blocks. The system uses natural language prompts and adapts to the specific programming language and context of the code being written. It can even generate multiple alternative suggestions, allowing developers to choose the most suitable one. Microsoft Copilot is designed to improve developer productivity and accelerate the coding process.

According to Github Research, developers who use GitHub Copilot, 88% say they are more productive, 74% say that they can focus on more satisfying work, and 77% say it helps them spend less time searching for information or examples.

2. AI Assisted Email Replies Saving Tons of Time

Microsoft Copilot integrated into Microsoft 365, ERP and CRM can assist employees reply to emails quicker by fetching relevant data based on the email context. For example, a client might ask for a quote of 2 gaming Pcs fitted with RTX 3090 graphics card and Intel Core i9 processor. Microsoft Copilot will fetch the relevant data with the latest prices from the ERP and even show you best alternatives, or upsells you can add as additional information to your client. This saves alot of time that would be used in preparing the quote.

3. Cybersecurity – Assisted Threat Analysis

Microsoft Copilot can provide you with security information tailored to your organizations infrastructure. The information helps patch vulnerable systems and should a cyberattack happen, Copilot can assist with threat hunting by providing the attack path and helping mitigate the attack and secure the systems.

4. Preparing Presentations

Embedded in productivity apps ie Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and more, and using your organisation data, Microsoft Copilot can boost productivity by quickly creating presentations based on your own data. It also facilitates use of features within the apps like animating the presentation on PowerPoint, which would otherwise not have been utilised because of limited knowledge by the users.
